Abstract: In power engineering, nano technology has created an interest for researchers to improve the performance of different appliances and apparatus used in power industry. Insulators provide necessary insulation between line conductors and supports. Glass and polymer insulators are available in market. Due to the high cost of glass insulators and ageing problem of polymer insulators, porcelain insulators are abundantly used for insulation. Researchers focused on developing new insulating materials which exhibit, decent insulating properties by introducing nanotechnology as nanomaterials. Various problems are occurred on these insulators and they get punctured and damaged. All the electrical insulators are kept in atmosphere with different pollution levels and exposed to various temperatures. The pollution form different dust and dirt layers on the surface of the insulators, which tends to surface flashover due to its conductivity on the surface. Different techniques are used to remove the dust and reduce the flashover which leads to economic loss on the utility companies and consumers.
